“They're here. They're in the clinic.”

Amit was a paramedic with Magen David Adom, Israel's national emergency medical service. She lived and worked in Kibbutz Be'eri. During the assault she was trapped in the kibbutz clinic and for about six hours treated the wounded, while outside Hamas terrorists were breaking into homes. A nurse and a dentist were with her.

During the siege she was writing on WhatsApp to her sister Lior. She told her they were doing what they could, that the shooting never stopped, that there seemed to be more and more terrorists and they had got into the houses, that soldiers had been hit too. Lior tried to give her courage. Amit replied that she loved her and thanked her.

Then came the last message, in which gunfire can be heard. The terrorists had entered the clinic, and Amit said she did not think she would get out alive and that she loved her sisters. According to her other sister, Haviva, Amit had hidden in the kitchenette with a kitchen knife.

Her body was found on the night of Monday 9 October, along with those of more than a hundred other victims. Her sister Lior remembered her as the princess of the family, a young woman who tried to save lives until the very last moment.
