Mapping the Massacres

7 October, place by place.

A digital documentation and memorial project dedicated to the attacks of 7 October 2023 in Israel. The map lets you explore the places that were attacked and read the stories of the people who were killed or abducted, linking their names to the places and to reconstructions of what happened.

The project was started by three Israeli siblings a week after the massacre and is supported by volunteers. It gathers and cross-checks news reports, public sources, memorial material and information received directly from victims' families and survivors.

How to read the map

Every entry tells the story of a person.

By selecting a marker you can see the person's name, age, an account of what happened and references to sources. The individual stories help you understand what happened in each of the places shown.

The map shows the sites of the attacks, the breaches in the barrier and the victims: killed, abducted (including those who later returned) or missing. Each victim is placed at their last known location, with a precision that varies from case to case. The site warns that its data is constantly being updated.
